Any android users out there? I know Mr. Tripps has one...which apps should I look into? I just got an HTC Touch 3g for a belated birthday present, woohoo!

What kind of apps you looking for. I don't use a whole lot as I'm still getting used to my phone.

I have a few games (robo defense is awesome), a guitar tuner and the standard social apps. The music software is extremely lacking at this point. Mostly I use it for messaging, calls, web browsing, taking pics/video and looking cool.

I did root my phone which required a bunch of other software so I could enable sideloading of apps and remove all the att crap. Has not done me much good except for getting rid of said att apps.

DAW control behind the drums is what I want (at least the ability to punch myself in). I think logmein will work...whether it works quick enough to beat me to the mixing room and back via sneakernet is up for deliberation. Also a budgeting software would be nice, Mint seems popular. Contact management seems to be handled by the HTC myTouch well without any 3rd party apps. I love the bump app idea, hah. Hopefully that can be set up to share groups of contacts vs JUST my contact info. That way I could bump my contacts in New york to my contacts in Kansas City and vice versa. Stuff like that.

Gmail, googlemaps (navigation)...does that stuff work well? Can you use streetview and satellite views? Google Calendar is awesome, have you used it on your Android phone?

Never thought I'd jump on the smartphone wagon but now that I'm getting one for the low low price of free +$30 a month I'm ready to tap and slide my life away.

Yes and Yes. Google sky is also pretty cool. I also have gStrings which is an 'ok' tuner. There's also an app called Guitar Scales.

I just downloaded Uloops which is kind of a mini music composer.. something to play around with. It's only a lite version unless you pay for it (not sure how much it is). I haven't messed around with this a whole lot yet.

Just remember, the more stuff you install, the more "updates are available" you'll get everyday, but it's not bad.

Yelp is pretty cool if you travel, and I also have the Ebay app.

Yeah the google stuff is awesome, tied into GPS it rocks seriously. I navigated to my house just to check it out, when I got there it said "you are at your destination" and pulled up google street view of my house.

Contact management on my phone rocks as well (probably all android). My contacts were auto synced between facebook, phone numbers and gmail. I only had to manually edit a couple entries out of 100's.

Checking out uloops now.

Uloops is really really cool but... it gets out of sync. If they fix that I was seriously impressed otherwise.

Just in case you guys haven't seen this Google sponsored developer contest...everything listed I've tried has been awesome. I actually bought the Celeste thing, I like it a lot. Can't say how accurate it is, but it seems neat. I'm using the trial of Wave Security, but I'm pretty sure that I'll buy it too.

get the app which, when you point it at various locations in the night sky, tells you what you're looking at. planets, constellations, etc. previously you could only do this with a dedicated device.

they probably also have a satellite tracking app. iphone does.

google sky map, came in handy for the meteor shower the other night. If the sky wasn't full of clouds I would have seen some as I was surely looking at the right spot ;)

That Wavesecure program I described is AWESOME. I just had to purchase the product ($20 yearly sub) in order to find it after a scare this morning. After yelling obscenities and turning over furniture for about 45 minutes, I remember I downloaded Wavesecure as a trial. I decided now was the time to invest in the app, hah. As soon as I bought the thing I got a friendly pointer showing that it was in an adjacent city. Thankfully it was at my friends house under a pile of trash on the passenger side of his Mazda. Now that I've seen the web interface for this product I'm totally blown away.

You can track the device on demand or you can set it to automatically update at pre-set time increments to see where the cell phone holder is headed. I can schedule backups to happen automatically, and they're all incremental so no wasted battery. Everything from the data on the SD card to the call log can be backed up. I can wipe out all my phone's data (SMS, Call log etc.) from the Internet, I can restore all my phones information from the Internet. Even better, I can see which SIM card is being used on the phone, what cell phone number it's associated with, and which provider issued it.

Of course I have to hope the potential thief is dorky enough to plop his sim card in and use my phone without resetting the firmware. Lots of theft in my neighborhood recently, and I can be pretty absent minded so this is a good thing for me to have when I accidentally leave my phone in my car overnight. Already had a laptop and GPS stolen on two different occasions.
