Feedback on a mix - hip hop vocals

It's been a while since I posted any music, so here goes...
Song is called "frisco kids" and is on my music profile page:

Just looking for feedback on the overall mix. I only have the beat as a stereo wave, but have full control over all the vocals. This has not been mastered in any way, just an advanced version of the mix. Oh, and lyrically there shouldn't be anything offensive in here. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Oh hell yeah, beat reminds me of 70's (early 80's) TV, love it :)

Mix is solid man, I can hear everything in the background while the vocals sit nicely on top yet don't drown anything out. Not sure but on my speakers at work I would like a little more brightness (sizzle).

After that you can master it, set it as downloadable and this would be the first hip hop song in my library since BBoys Pauls Boutique ;)

Great job all around man.

Thanks Cpt. Yeah, now that you mention it, the highs are a bit lacking. I'll see if I can eq the beat track to bring out the highs/hats a bit more. Glad you like it. I'll definitely make it downloadable once it's done (might be a month or two away considering I'm trying to finish up a 10-12 track album. It's all been recorded, but I still need to do all the mixing/mastering).

Sounds good to me, but I'm only listening on my netbook speakers. I'll check it out on my audio computer once it's downloadable. It's hard to tell on this little netbook, but I might lower the volume the lead vocals just ever so slightly and boost a little in the high end so it still cuts through the mix nicely. Again, take this with a grain of salt because I'm not listening on my audio computer.

Thanks Deon! The sample is definitely from the 70's but I'm not sure exactly where from. Glad that people without a penchant for hip hop can dig it too.

Ha ha, thanks Quincy! I've been mixing a bunch of songs lately, and I'm noticing that I'm seriously easing up on the compression levels compared to what I used to do, and I'm really liking the sound I'm getting for vocals. Also easing up on the de-esser, and everything seems a bit more "open".
