Oxygen8 & Sonar2.2 Help Please!!

Hello Everybody,
I am very new here and i am hoping someone might be able to help me. I have been using midi files for years as a performer, but never had to actually input anything into a midi file till now.

I need to insert a melody track into a large number of my files that don't already have a 'vocal' track. So i bought an Oxygen 8 to tap in the melody, and hope to snap the lyrics to it afterward. First thing i noticed was after hooking up to my XP computer and Sonar 2.2 via USB was that there is a significant delay after striking a key before you actually hear the note.

Next when i tried tapping in a melody line in a midi file loaded into Sonar 2.2, it recorded, and played back perfectly. But when i load the file into any other module e.g. Genesys XP (Gem) my melody line is playing over a piano in track 1. The track i created and recorded into in Sonar was track 14!!

Sorry this is so long winded i am trying to explain as best i can.

I obviously do not have the Oxygen configured with Sonar properly, and i would be very grateful if anybody could walk me through it.
