I'm new here, still haven't figured out how to post a beat I made on here. I'm guessing it's pretty simple to do and there's just some link I'm overlooking somewhere?

Under My Account, choose manage your songs and it should be self explanatory from there.

Right on, thanks. I think it worked. Now how do I go about posting a link to share it with the forum?

Nevermind, I got it. I appreciate your help, thank you.

So this here's an unfinished song I just wanted to throw out there for any suggestions or criticisms either on composition and/or sound levels/effects. I've been hesitant to add anything else to it so far because it has this certain feel to it and everything else I've experimented with adding to it kind of took away from the feel so I've just left it as is.

Thats beautiful. Catchy melody, solid groove to the beat. Takes me back to a better place really :] High quality sounds too. Is that an actual acoustic guitar or MIDI samples? Either way, sounds incredible.

As for the adding thing, i think some more instruments or sounds COULD benefit it, depends what you're going for here. As just an instrumental... I'd say you're just about done. Mess around with a few of the levels maybe, idk. I have a few ideas but i don't trust my judgement here. I really would dig that as an actual song, with vocals. Find a GOOD singer though, and take your time if you decide to go that route. Do a lot of layered stuff, i'd suggest. A very full, "studio" sound (as in, a vibe that is not just a capture of a good live performance). THEN I would say think about adding a few sounds here and there to accent the vocals, if it doesn't take away.

But, this is all just suggestions for my preferences. If you're an instrumental music kind of guy, i respect that. Also, I'd say you're just about done! In an instrumental piece I think any standout melodies besides that beautiful guitar would take away. Possibly a kind of "bell"ish synth.... very...idk, "beach" sounding and relaxing. I'd say use it on the same notes as the guitar plays to just accent them, ya know?

Last thing to note, i'm not very experienced. Just throwing ideas out there, brainstorming really. Don't take anything i say as more than that. You've got some amazing sounds right here though.

Right on, thanks for the feedback. The guitar is a voice from my Yamaha Motif ES 6.

Yeah, this is nice. If you're wanting to add vocals, I'm seeing a female singer doing a pop song over this.

Mix wise, I'm just listening on computer speakers, so take opinion with a grain of salt, but I'm thinking the bass could be dialed down a bit, and the drums could come up in the mix a tiny bit (especially the little dj scrath part). Also, the kick could be thickened up a bit/ more deeper bassy kick sound, though I'm also thinking if it's just more prevalent in the mix, it may not need the extra work... hard to tell.

Yeah, I thinking the bass might be too much but I hadn't really decided yet. First I need to listen to it on a home system, car system, headphones, computer speakers, etc. to see if it really is more bass than I intended. I just listened to it through a pair of M-Audio Studiophile BX8 monitors and a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones. I had the DJ scratch up a bit louder at first, but I decided it was bringing too much focus to the beat, same with the kick. I purposely set them back in the mix to feature the acoustic guitar and just use the beat in a more subtle matter to just support the guitar and not take too much of the spotlight. This track might turn out to be a song with vocals, but my main market for selling beats is hip hop artists. I kind of seperate music I make into 2 categories. The music I make to sell, i.e. hip hop beats. And music I make for myself just because I felt like making it. This song falls into the latter category. I didn't really have an intended structure or purpose or concept for a song in mind, I just made what I felt like making and sometimes I like to listen to it. I've never put out an album of my own, although I thought about releasing an instrumental one some day of stuff I've made similar in mood to this track. Thanks for the feedback.

Any time I mix through my HD280s, I end up with way too much bass. There's a hole in their bass response somewhere down around 100 Hz or so. For some reason, as awesome as they sound at all other frequencies, the HD280s dont' reproduce some of the lows very accurately. It's a shame too, because otherwise they're excellent cans.

Very true, Tadpui. I use the HD280's just for a reference check and I rely mostly on the M-Audio Studiophile BX8's but sometimes those seem kind of light in the low end as well. I try to avoid a final decision until I've come up with a couple different drafts and play them on various consumer level systems. I haven't quite come to that point yet with this song. This one's just been sitting on the backburner for awhile.
