Signal to DAW

Hello,
I'm just getting into software home recording. I'm playing everything (keyboard, guitar, bass), and using a drum machine and/or loops for drums. Right now, I have guitar, bass, keyboard, amps, a rack mounted dbx compressor, misc effects. I'm using Reaper as my DAW.

My question is; what should I use to get my signals into my computer. I'm leaning toward a usb mixing board such as the Alesis MultiMix 8 USB mixer ( www.zzounds.com...ALEMULTIMIX8USB ). My sound card only has the small mic input, that's why I'll be going USB. I'll only being doing vocals and one instrument at a time but would like the ability to expand that to more than just the two tracks at once.

Am I wasting money here or should I just by something simpler like a Line 6 POD Studio UX2 to get the signal to the computer?

TIA,
Jovhato

The alesis mixer would work fine (dead link btw, but i googled the name to do a little quick research). But with the Line 6 Gear you're going to be getting so much more than just an interface. Super low latency drivers, and PodFarm amp modelers. Which, even if your style/ abilities/ guitar&amp budget allow you to get better tones out of your amp, i think you'll fine a lot of the plug-in effects and preamp models extremely useful, especially when you're first starting out. It gives you a lot of nice reverb/delay plugs. The mods are also nice for vocal processing. And depending on your style of music, i think you'll really like some of the tones you can get out of the amp modeling with a little bit of tweeking.

So thats my opinion, for the money i think you'd be getting a little more with the UX2

I fixed the link...it auto-appended the parenthesis on the end of it.

Great! Thanks for the reply (and link fix). Next question without starting new thread; is this particular Line 6 the way to go or is there something better out there for around the same price?

I love mine. I've tried the M-Audio Fasttrack pro as well, same price. No where near as good. Crappy drivers. Supported midi. But much more latency. And just... idk. something about it i really didn't like.

The UX2+ Podfarm is the only gear that i know of in this price range that will give you processing software (if you think you need it) and an interface. But even just as a standalone interface, i liked it better than the FTP. I'd say just by research and face value, the UX2 looks on par, or better than, every interface on the market around $200. If you only need 1 input, you could get the UX1 for $150. But i'd suggest getting 2 inputs. Its nice to be able to have a buddy over and you play bass while he plays guitar to some drum loops. And for just yourself, mic+DI of an acoustic guitar, or room micing and close micing of something.
