How much money should I be making running sound?

Last weekend, my former roomate's band played a two night set at a fairly large bar in Toledo, Ohio. I showed up to night one as a spectator supporting my friends and their music. There were around 300 people in the bar. The band was running bass drum, bass guitar, guitar, and vocals through a 6 channel powered mixer that was powering two ancient 150 watt Peavey 15's. The sound was bad to put it nicely. I showed up night two with my harbinger 152's and Cerwin Vega EL36C as the sound guy. The band is the most legitimate 3 peice bar band I've ever heard, so the potential to be great was there. They just needed some low end and enough channels on the board to mic the drums. I am quite pleased to say that my and my gear's contributions to the success of the performance did not go unoticed by the band, the audience, or the bar staff. I was hired by the band as the every gig sound guy. I may get more work at that bar, as well. This is all well and good, but I don't want to go into this situation and get caught with my pants down. I was offered 10% of the band's cut. I negotiated 15%, but still feel this might be a little slim. They are making $1000 a weekend. As it stands now, I get 150$ to set up and tear down once, and run two nights of sound, 4 hrs per night. So my question is this: Are my pants down?

No. that's about right.

Sucks doesn't. But that is why we all say that we are never going to be millionaires from doing this job.

The only thing that I would do for when your working in the bar, is charge them some sort of rental fee above your $150.

This way, if you lose a driver, your not dead in the water to get a replacement.

typical rental fee is 10% of the price of the gear. But that maybe a hard sell.
