Help with combining 2 digital video/sound files.

I am helping a local church do some video and sound recording. Tonight we are having a meeting about some new equipment they are getting. I am a computer programmer so this video and sound stuff is new to me. Right now, when we record a sermon we have to dub it back and forth from VHS to DVD. We have to do it a couple of times in order to add a 3 or 4 minute introduction to the beginning of each recording. My question is, can anyone tell me about some sort of software that will let me do this video editing digitally. I would like to have the 3 or 4 minute introduction in digital format on a computer and then when we record that day's sermon, just take the 2 files and "edit" them together and burn it to CD. I was hoping there was some free application I could use to do this sort of thing. I hope this makes sense. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Windows and Mac come with free apps to do simple video editing. Windows Movie Maker and iMovie (I think that's the name)...for low priced options, I like Pinnacle Studio or, if you have money to burn, Adobe Premiere is pretty good, I find Pinnacle studio easier to use tho...you can edit video, ad sound tracks, add transitions between clips and all that stuff.

I'm a fan of Vegas Movie Studio. I bought Ver 8 platinum when ver 9 was out, so I got it for 21$ on ebay. Nice.

But, for what you're doing, I'm pretty sure you can do it with either free apps dB mentioned.

I just looked at iMovieHD on Mac. Wow, that's pretty cool. It's got kick butt themes and such, though I don't really know how to use it. Very nice though, for free ( kinda, costs you a mac to use it ).

Makes windows movie maker look like kindergarten, though WMM is still capable and decent for putting a couple segments together w/ audio and some cuts, etc.
