reverb for the snare

does anyone know how to add a good amount of reverb to the snare without adding it to the rest of the drum mix without purchasing a $400 external signal processor? I assume i need an external reverb that can be applied using the insert channel(on my board)for the snare mic, because the drum mix gets mixed down to stereo when entering my computer so i dont think i can use software because i would have to add it to the entire drum mix. is there any cheap outboard reverb that i can buy?

Apr 22, 2003 05:34 am I don't think that's a stupid idea. We did it when we didn't have better equipment before. Worked out o.k. Actually that's what we used on "Her Wings" for vocals.
I may be wrong though. There might be a better way.

Apr 22, 2003 01:14 pm here's another option for you stinkyjoe: this is not necessarily the best way to go, but it is another option.
Once you have your stereo mix of the drums in your multitracking software, duplicate the track(s) and merge into a single mono track of the drum mix. On the duplicate, apply an EQ plugin. With a little sweeping around, you can EQ out just about everything other than the "meat" of the snare. Basically, you'll end up cutting all but one band as much as the plug will let you. That one band will be left at 0db so that it allows the snare's promary frequencies to pass on through.
Next, apply a reverb plug to the track. You may want to mix the verb very wet so that you end up with a track that's basically nothing but verb for the snare. Mix this track with your stereo drum mix tracks and viola! It's not perfect, but it should allow you to add some space to your snare without having to actually record the reverb onto the track.
