midi headache (DM5+Pro Tools 8)

ok i've been trying to control one of my drum machines through midi ive got an alesis dm5 and a roland td3 ive set up the midi track and stereo aux input correctly and the main outputs from the drum machine are plugged into my mbox2 but for some reason no sound comes out of the unit. i've even had a trigger plugged in to it i can record the information being played in but still no sound comes from the audio outputs even through the headphone port. i've spend nearly a whole 2 days researching this and nothing maybe someone who owns a dm5 could shed some light?
