Home recording: dubbing, mixing and multi-tracking?

Hi,

i use MixCraft software on my XP which i like, but my interface [FasTrack] is driving me sideways with driver issues and (probable) programme conflicts. Is there a mixer / multitrack unit i can use to put songs together please?

a boon would be the ability to link it (usb) to the pc / MixCraft but i don't want to end up with the driver blues again, so any mixer needs to have some sort of independent existence of the pc

launching out into the unknown here - MixCraft is great but there are too many pc issues floating around which effectively stop any music making, which is absurd when you think about it :-o

advice appreciated :)

have been looking at Yamaha MG82CX 8 Channel Mixer and Boss BR-600 but will these allow me to *record tracks and play along with them*, in order to build up songs please?

many thanks

Ric

The M-Audio Fastrack seems to be known for its instability. I'm not sure what is behind it, if it's not friendly with whichever OS you're using, or if it's not happy with the USB hardware in your PC, or what. But don't judge all USB interfaces by that one, it's just kind of a bad apple, even as far as M-Audio goes.

We should be able to get your driver issues resolved if you give us the details about what's happening. It'd be a shame to buy more gear if your current gear is capable of performing as expected.

Just in case you haven't tried these steps yet, here's M-Audio's Fast Track USB troubleshooting guide for Win XP:

Thanks Tadpui,

have been using FastTrack for about 3 years but it's always a hassle to get it running ok, but this week it has been impossible. run FT on XP and Vista, both run MixCraft, a great program. As soon as i try to record anything i can see the volume up about 5% filled with interference; as soon as i strum my guitar i get a static crackling effect, it is awful, it sounds like a 78rpm recording, i've tried everything in 'preferences': Asio drivers, Wave drivers, default drivers, you name it. I don't understand how to alter the latency but that panel is greyed out anyway and i don't really want to go there - i'll end up doing a Phd in FastTrack technology when all i want to do is record some music, it is too much! :-o

yes, shelling out for new gear is a pain i could do without, and will mean i have to forsake other projects (budget HD cam goodbye for another year) but if i carry on like this with Fast Track they will be taking me away to a secure institution somewhere X-}

if only there was a fix for this - but i can't see it?

thanks
