What is the maximum number of tracks you can have with Cubase SX? I will be helping a friend and he may have somewhere between 20 and 30 tracks to import.

Jan 31, 2010 07:44 pm It depends entirely on your PC.
CPU, RAM ETC.
Also, the amount of effects per track.

Jan 31, 2010 08:19 pm I don't believe that SX limits your track count, just your system capabilities, like Beak says. At some point, your computer will start to bog down as it tries to play back all of the wav files in your project. And the real killer on CPU capacity is VST plugins or other real-time processing and virtual instruments.
In Cubase SX, take advantage of its effects tracks, groups and buses, which will help you apply the same instance of a VST effect to multiple tracks. It's especially helpful for reverbs, since they're amongst the CPU hungriest plugins, and they can be applied to multiple tracks at once without weird things happening (unlike compressors or gates).
But the LE and SE versions do impose a limit on how many tracks you can have in a project. I think it's 48 tracks in both LE and SE.
