Okay, I'm a little confused here (i'm a terrible reader lol)

To simplify, could you possibly fill out your gear bio here so we know what you're working with?

Anyway, so you want to record the kick, snare, and toms with midi and a drum program, and then add in the cymbals by hand in your DAW? or were you planning on micing those mostly? Also, how many pieces are in your band? Don't forget to count backup vocals and such.

Umm. i think thats all i needed to ask. Welcome to the HRC :]

thanx for responding.

im recording a live jam , 2 guitarists and a drummer using adobe 1.5 which does not have midi recording capabilities.said parties involved don't want to switch to another program at this point because they are all familiar with it.

guitars .with sm-57's to m-audio pre-amp to m-audio pc card which has four ins

www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Delta44.html

the drummers kick with an akg d-112 and the snare with another sm-57

those are the 4 ins on the pc card

then i am using audix f-15's through a tascam us-122, with two more ins through usb2.0, for drum overheads.
the drummer has triggers and a brain for his kit.

since the tascam has midi capabilities....

is it possible to record the midi out from the brain so that each drum, kick snare toms ,has a specific "track" like you would with acoustic drums?would each drum be assigned a midi channel that corresponds with the sequencing software?
what software would you recommend that is stable enough for a 60 to 90 minute session recording in midi for pc?

i really wanted to make use of the drum triggers but dont want to record his brain audio signal.

So you have 3 audio interfaces then? With a total of 8 inputs? And you only need 2 mics for the guitars, no bass or vox?

Just clarifying your situation. Anyway, as for your DAW situation i'm not sure what to do. I know some guys on here use fruity loops for midi or something similar, but i'm a little confused how they then could get that into their main DAW. Maybe you can bounce the midi and import that file into adobe.

That said, idk how much fruity loops (or something similar) is, or what program you'd be best using. Someone else will probably chime in.

Now for the brain, yeah you totally should be able to record its midi as long as it has midi outs. Just buy a midi cable and go to your tascam, or even if in the future that thing breaks or something, they make midi interfaces for like $40, they aren't too pricey.

And yes, if you recorded midi each trigger would be given a separate "track" within the drum sequencer. Each trigger would be assigned a midi note (like C1, C#1, D1, etc) and then every hit on those should trigger a velocity (i think, i don't really understand how drum triggers works however). Then in the drum sequencer those drums will be under your full control for panning and processing. And then your overheads should pick up the cymbals and some pleasant bleed quite nicely.

For the drum sequencer and midi program, how much were you looking to spend?
