Transfering Files

I'm trying to move all of my recording files, done in Cubase LE 4 from my computers internal hard drive, to an external hard drive, to mix on a different computer, what files and folders do I need to copy over so that when I install Cubase on the other computer, the project files will open and work the same as they would on the computer I have them on now? I'd really appreciate some help.

Well, I don't really use Cubase, but I would assume that it stores the samples and recording files it uses in the specific folder for the audio project. So you'll need the project file itself, and the individual recording files that were used in the project (assuming .wav files) And you'll need to reinstall or copy over any VST effects and instruments that you used in the project.

Oh, and you may need to put the project folder in the same place on the other machine as you have it currently, so that Cubase knows the path, and can access everything it needs.

One of the Cubase users around here can probably give a more definite and clear response.

Does Cubase have the option of storing tracks as individual wav files and having a reference file to store track info, mix info and all that? If so, is that how you are storing them or are you storing the whole project as a "bundle" meaning all audio, track reference and everything as a single file? I'm a Cakewalk guy, so I can't say I know much about Cubase, so I'll work on theory.

If individually then it's like J-bot said, there is likely a folder containing all that you need, and likely more...wav files not in use any more and such. If it's a bundle, then you should just need to copy that single bundle file.

However, remember, if you currently have any effects in use or anything, those effects will need to be available on the new mixing computer as well.
