Problem upgrading to Protools 8

I am looking to update my protools to the new 8.0 version, but as I read the system requirements for protools 8, I realized it said for "Mac OS X 10.5/10.6 (Intel-based Macs only)". I have Mac OSX 10.5, but I don't think my mac is intel-based, as it says its processor is "1.8 GHz PowerPC G5." This computer is no more than 4 years old. Is it possible that it is already so outdated that I can't even run the newest version of Protools on it?? Anyone have any solutions??

I can't claim any amount of expertise with Mac's, but I do know that sometimes 4 years is an eternity in technology...so it could very well be the case.

That PowerPC is not Intel based and I doubt it's compatible...I think its worth a call to Digidesign though...if you feel like being on the phone for 45 minutes before talking to a random presumptuous jerk. I would recommend posting a question on the DUC instead:

Pro tools 8 does not support Power PC based Macs.Pro Tools 8.0.1 software is the last version of Pro Tools to support PowerPC-based Macintosh computers. So if you are using upgraded version of Pro tools 8.0.1 then you need a intel based processor.
