Total newbie needs help

My son is doing Music technology A Level and we are setting up a home studio. Currently he owns an Apple iMac and has bought a second hand Behringer Xenyx 2442fx from a friend. We have the supplied U control UCA200 and we are having trouble getting the signal into Garageband. There is a signal going into the mixer as there are lights on the main mix levels.

Any help would be appreciated. I am reasonably computer literate but a total newbie in home recording / mixing

Hello David, welcome to HRC.

I have a imac at home, but not here at work. I will start by saying that you need to make sure the signal is leaving the mixer. You can plug in headphones (turn the mains down) to test, but it won't be normal volume. Just try to see that it's working for now.

I think the UC200 things are listed as a codec of some sort, so you'll need to tell GB to listen on that device.

eh, i'll take a look tonight when i'm at home. There are a few others on here that use MACs, but they may not be on here everyday.

All sorted. I just needed to add the device in the GB set up and use the correct device. Thanks for the help it was a simple solution but I would have struggled without your help.

Many thanks

David

Sweet, nice to know it was an easy one.

I'm gonna try at home now. I have a US122 that I haven't set up for mac yet, but am inspired to see it run.

It's got Garageband on it, but I may try reaper on it too.

Have fun.
