Recording Interface: Novation nio and line 6 studio ux2

I'm looking to buy a new interface to replace my m-audio jamlab[and it's about damn time]. Things to factor in, I want to be able to mik up my cab with as close to pro results as possible, Idk if gain is going to be an issue but I thought I'd mention I'll be recording metal, and low latency would be awesome[no latency].

I was looking at the line 6 ux2 but I figured that was more for direct signal than miking, does anyone mic their amp with the ux2 or any previous versions?

looking to stay under $200 due to the fact I'll be spending an extra hundred on a sm58[possibly a dynamic instead, throw some options at me].

UX2 works both ways. The modeling is great if you have a crappy room but if you want to mic things up it will perform similar to everything else out there in the price range.

I have the 8 channel (ux8) and mic my drumkit, I think it works quite well personally. Check my tunes if ya like. If it sounds rough, I barely mixed it. "Gypsy" is a good example although the guitars are all modeled.

I agree. Actually, before you buy the 58, you might wanna get the UX2 and see how you like the direct modeling. You might be surprised. I sure as hell was haha. It sounded closer to pro than i was ever getting out of my i5 (though to be fair, i hadn't had more than a month or so experimenting with mic positions. But still).

Don't disregard the power of a modeled amp for us home enthusiasts :] I made that mistake and spent way too much money on equipment i'm now looking to sell. Ah well. Cut my loses at least. But the models are quite impressive when you tweak them.

And even without PodFarm, the UX2 is a solid audio interface. The drivers preform very well, updated often. If you do any work with midi, this things latency can get down to about 5ms input, which is far below the point where you'd ever be able to notice. And its only 200.

So yeah, my advice would be get the UX2. You'll definitely be happy with it as an audio interface. Then try out the modeling. if you like it, buy the extra high gain amps (50 bucks i think). If you still like your mic better, get that 57.

Oh wow, i misread that last line for some reason haha. I saw you say "sm-fifty" and automatically assumed "seven." just out of curiosity, was the 58 for amps or vocals?

I was gonna use the 58 for both actually, I heard it was a pretty universal mic. good for both.

Ya, the 58 is good for both. Although the 57 for some reason comes up alittle better on the amp cab's for sure. And the 57 works well on vox so its a toss up really.

And as far as the interface goes. I will agree completely that you will be miles ahead with the UX-2. I won several other high end interfaces and find myself using the UX many times just for it being there quickly and easily.

I like the mic pre amp models in it as well. Very clean and straight up. So miccing a cab with one of those would be the katz azz as well.
