Hi everyone.
I'm in the market for a LDC. It'll be my first so I'm not breaking the budget here, I'm looking to spend about $150 AUS.
I've narrowed it down to either the MXL 770 cgi.ebay.com.au/MXL-770-S...=item5637354f72 or the Behringer c-3 cgi.ebay.com.au/Behringer...=item3357949925
I'll be using it for recording my rather loud rock band and I guess i'm curious as to whether the extra frequency spectrum offered by the mxl is worth sacrificing the switchable polar patterns of the behringer?
Also, are the low cut and -10db switches on the mxl worth it or could I acheive the same from the gain and eq on my mixing desk?
I would also appreciate other suggestions here remembering i'm pretty fixed on the price.

Nov 22, 2009 09:02 pm To be honest the pattern switch on the Behringer is not all that functional. It does not come close to doing what a pattern select switch does on a more expensive mic. So that is almost really a moot point on that mic.
The 770 is a bit better built mic as well.
As for sound quality, well you are talking about sub $100 US mic's here. There is not going to be a huge difference. But the durability factor between those two is what would sell me.

Dec 02, 2009 06:28 pm I don't know if you can get them easily in AU, but the Studio Projects B1 is a nice mic. I have the B3, and have done some nice things with it.
Dec 03, 2009 05:18 pm I can get one. Are they any good? They seem to have all the bells and whistles.

Dec 03, 2009 05:40 pm If you are in Australia I would check and see if Rode mics may be cheaper there as well.

Dec 04, 2009 02:27 pm I like my B3, as I also like my C1, also from Studio Projects. The 'Time in a bottle' song in my profile was recorded voice with the B3, i think. ( see profile below, then music)
I used the B3 in front of a drum kit and it sounded great! I added 2 OH and used the 1 B3 and the sound was very good.
but I also agree w/ Tripps, Rode are made in AU, so you may get them cheap there, plus they'd be better quality than the low budget SP mics.
