Nov 03, 2009 09:47 am I'm interested in seeing what other peoples favorite mics are and why. I am slowly building my tool kit of recording gear and the more I can have that can be best for certain situations, I'm sure will help me out a bunch. Let me know what you guys think, I'm just curious :) |

Nov 03, 2009 05:41 pm I'd think you're looking for "desert island" mics -- Few ever have enough mics to cover 'everything' anyway... Typical vocal - Shure SM7b Instrumental vocal - Too many to list... Too many variables. Typical acoustic instrument - Shure SM81 Typical area / excellent space - Avenson STO2 Typical area / crappy space - (set to cardioid) AKG 414, Neumann U87 Kick - D112 / B52 / M88 - Depends on the kick and the application Toms - SM57 / MD421 Snare - SM57 OH / tight control or bad space - 81's are nice... OH / "Natural" control in good space - STO2's again. |
