Hello!
I'm fairly new to home recording so you'll have to bear with me, but alteast I've done my homework so I'll know most of the technical jargon. I have just recorded and mixed a rough draft version of my song (just acoustic guitar and voice so far) to practice my mixing. Can anybody help me determine what needs to be fixed and how I can fix it in the mix?

Oct 27, 2009 06:42 pm Heya hemeltz. Sounds great so far. The only comments I have are maybe adding a very small amount of reverb the vocal track, since it sounds a little dry to me, and a little forward compared to the acoustic. But they also sound very clean and very clear to me, and I think you're getting a great sound on the acoustic and vocals themselves.
Hope that helps!

Oct 29, 2009 05:45 pm Yep, a nice reverb on the vocal track to help settle it back a bit in the mix. It may need to have the level dropped just a bit as well. But as stated, they are both nice clean tracks indeed.
You can hear the room ambiance on the guitar track, so try and match the vocal track to sound similar and you would be good to go.

Noize2u, that's actually almost all digital reverb. The room I record in is a carpeted basement. I could scream on one end and the sound wouldn't even reach the stairs, that's how dead it is acoustically. I guess I got lucky!
I'm going to play around with a little more reverb and a little less compression on the vocals, and then go for a slightly lower level and maybe a pinch of limiter on mastering (which for me is just making the volume louder on my stereo track haha).
Thanks!
