OK HRC have been more than helpfull in the past to get me started with my home recording project so I'm hoping you don't mind spending a little time listening to my song (found under "Members Music").

I would really appreciate some feedback on mixing and/or mastering as I just did it by ear rather than knowing what I was doing.

Enjoy

Very cool, the sound was pretty good to be honest. Dark as it should be. My only comment would be that the snare is a bit out front and might be distracting from the kick a bit. I would try and pull the snare back a little with the level first and see if that does it. I would be betting that just a small decrease in the level of the snare will get it about right.

And your ear's are what you should be using. Looking at things comes secondary when it comes to mixing. You need to rely on your ears to tell you what is fitting and what isn't. Learn your monitoring set up be it headphones or speaker's and use them to the extent you can.

Liked the tune itself by the way.

Cheers...Really appreciate you taking a listen.
I'll have a go at resetting the levels for the snare as suggested. I had eq'd the drums a bit to pick up the snare, I'll need to retrain these ears I have and take it down a touch.

Again thanks for taking the time. :-)

It's a solid tune. Sitting somewhere between Bauhaus and Joy Division, if a bit closer to JD.

The main glitch I hear isn't in the composition or even in the mix. You managed a great homage to that "goth" vocalization and the guitar and bass sound brilliant given that you're going for that kind of sound.

The drum programming is the weak point. It works for the beat during the verses and chorus, but the snare has no variety to it. Since your fills always involve consecutive hits, the lack of variety in the FORCE of each hit makes the drum machine stand out as just that. Maybe with some variety in hit velocity and some of that gated reverb that The Sisters of Mercy used so well on Floodland (or their first album, which is probably closer to the sound you're attempting here), it would sit more comfortably in the mix and seem a more natural component of the song.

Just my $.02 though. Great song otherwise and BRILLIANT tone work on the vox, guitar, and bass! All it needs is some Peter Murphy bombast and you're in. =)

Yeah, I would concur with Noize about the level of the snare. Other than that, to my taste there is a bit much reverb on the vocals. But you may be going for that sound, so I don't feel completely comfortable offering too many more opinions as this style of music is not really my forte. But definitely good work.
