Pro Sounding Vocals.

i was listening to some of my recorded vocals, and experimenting w/ effects and reverbs and i came to notice that they had kind of a small sound to them. I listened to some pro recordings, and i noticed the vocals had a very SPACEY, wide, airy sound to them, i was wondering how i can achieve this effect. here is an example of what i mean, when i am talking about the SPACEY vocals that ive heard in so many pro recordings.

A common effect I hear in pop music is created with clever use a vocoder. I don't have time to listen to tyou link right now cuz I am super busy this week, but I will say that a vocoder I have heard a lot and that may be what you are after...

The sample track you sent is a simple thing to do. They are using simple layering of the vocal track. Make a copy or 2 or 3 and put them in seperate track's. now give each track a little differant EQ setting, all it will take is a miner tweak in the mid high range. And then pan them differantly till you start getting a bit of that a spacey sound. You can also move say the farthest panned right track ahead in time just a few tick's and this will add some more space.

They are also using a bit of automation, moving the panning of the singal vocal track a bit as the note ring's out. Just a very small touch of reverb also. Use a small wood room or something simalar as you don't want to add too much space.

Just experiment and you will find it, you can even try 4 or 5 track's if you want.

Your very welcome flame. It is a very easy trick to use on any track really, not just vocal's. but don't over use it, as it can get to be too much.

I know I wasn't the one that originally posted this, but I'm very interested in this exact same topic. I couldn't get it to work very well for me. I don't know what I was doing wrong. The sound I really want is the sound of the vocals on "Sweetness" by Jimmy Eat World. I don't expect perfect, considering my equipment, but I would like as good as possible. Do you have any suggestions, or maybe could you give me some steps to follow? Thanks a lot.
