Using EzDrummer with Logic Pro 8??

I'm pretty new with Logic and all home recording for that matter so this may be a very simple fix.

No matter what I try to do, I can't drag and drop anything from EzDrummer DFH to Logic. The best it does is sends part of the loop and I have to use other kits from Ultra beat. I've downloaded all the updates and patches and nothing works. I've been searching the net for any info but nothing that I've read helps at all.

Is there anyone that knows a simple way for the DFH pluggin to work with Logic? Or even where I could look to find it in the program? I'm dying to get this working. Thanks Guys!

Cheers,
Chris

sounds like a setting in Logic, i dunno logic but if its only importing cerain parts of the kit, then check out your "drum map" in logic, or have a read thru help in logic and look for drum map or drum map settings or something similar.

I think Noize2U knows about logic, he will see this thread eventually and give you some ideas.

im only guessing really.

When you say anything do you mean audio loop created by EZ? And by part of the loop do you mean a single drum sound or just a portion of the complete loop?

I mean it's completely silent unless I use a different drum kit. Then it usually only plays the kick and snare. The sound is terrible. I can't find any reference to EZ in Logic anywhere. May be I need to load it as a plugin differently. I don't know. I want the kit I paid for in EZ. I know it can be done because I've heard a couple peoples songs using Logic 8 and EZ but they've never responded to any emails. Toontrack is not very good with getting back to customers about product and technical questions. Like I said I'm very new to Logic but it seams a lot of people have similar problems using these programs together. Is this a lost cause?

Cheers,
Chris

P.S. Thanks Deon for the help as well!

man, this is one of the few places that will answer your questions, man dont get me started on the support base of some of these companies, it makes my blood boil.

its funny, this'll make you laugh and this how ******* useless they are, i wanted some info from Toontrack about what i needed to upgrade to get to the new "foundry" release, basicly i needed to spend some "big" dollars to get there and still i got no reply to my email. Idgits!

man, try going into "preferences" in Logic and find "midi" and have a look there for stuff to play with and change.

In cubase 4, i have a thing called "auto dissolve" which if not "unchecked" will create a brand new track everytime i drag in a loop with EZ.
im thinking its something like that, some sort of setting that's making your midi and related do this.

whatever it is, its fixable, just keep trying and you'll find the solution. that's how these programs are at first, then you'll get better at working em out.

So how do you have EZdrummer set up?
do you just open EZ up in your Logic project, find the loop u want, and then try to drag and drop it into your "midi" or "instrument" track in Logic?

OK, after re-reading you initial post I have a question.

Are you running it stand alone, rewired or as a pluggin in the DAW?

In stand alone I doubt it will work with Logic. And I'm not certain about using Rewire either in Logic. I do believe it has to be a direct pluggin like a software synth to function properly.

yep dat be true, you cant drag n drop it straight from the proggie (EZDrummer), you need to "open" the proggie "in" your Logic session and then drag n drop yer loops from there.

here's a pic if i was to do it in cubase.

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/318/synth5l1.jpg

notice how in the project track window to the far left, how it says "MUSE" in the little column? well thats my VST instrument and that's basicly (however Logic does it) what you want to have happening.
the top says "all midi inputs" which is yer "input"
and then your "output" i thru the Muse ( or EZd) or whatever VST you wanna use.

if you are trying to just open EZd as a stand alone, by that i mean, outside of Logic, then Logic cant see it.

if you look at the pic again to the right you'll see the VST box there, that's basicly where any VST's will be when you have them running, in your case it'll be EZd.

anyway without going too far into it, when you add a new track, does Logic give you options? like, Add track> then a choice of what you want like, "audio" or "instrument" or "midi"?

You need to pick Instrument or midi, which ever works for Logic. It'll proly be "instrument" then you'll be able to pick EZdrummer as your instrument.
once you done that then you should be able to open EZ in your your Logic session and drag n drop from there.
You just have to find which button opens the EZ program. it'll be in your track window somehwere.

let us know how you go.

Thanks for all the info dudes! It's gonna be a few before I get back t you guys after trying all this stuff.

As for how I use EZ. I open it as a stand alone then drag the loops over to Logic. The only reason I do it that way is because I can't find anything for EZ in Logic. I've searched everywhere (except the one place it must be hidden).

I ordered two Pro training books for Logic that should be here Friday so those should help me understand the program better but I doubt it will have anything to say about EZ.

Well it looks I have some work to do with the info you guys gave me so I'm off to do it now. Thanks again for all your help and quick responses!! It's greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Chris

Logic wont have anything in it about EZ but it'll tell you about Vst's which is what it is.

Best way to figure it out is look in help in Logic that's where youll find Vst info.

Yes, Deon makes a good point. There is always the help section of the program. There is usually a good deal of info in there as well.

DUDES!!!

First off, I want to thank you guys for every bit of info and time you gave to helping me figure this out. It's been a long hard road of researching to finally get it.

The whole problem was Logic doesn't use VST's for plugins! They only use AU's. I bought a book which is highly recommended, "Logic Pro 8: Tips & Tricks" That's where I found that out. The guy mentions that you have to use a VST Wrapper to trick Logic into thinking it's a normal AU. So I bought one. Now Logic recognizes EZ. I still have a few things to figure out but I can now use EZ in Logic!! If I write a drum pattern in Ultra Beat, I can then switch to EZ and it's pretty close. The good thing is, it sounds bad ***!

I know I don't have nearly the knowledge you guys have in this area but if there's anything I can do to help you guys in the future, consider it done!

Cheers,
Chris

Just hang around and if you have an answer or input on another members question's by all means share it.

I completely forgot that you were running Logic Pro 8.

Do you enjoy EZdrummer? I am thinking about getting the software very soon, and then implementing onto Acid Pro..

I love EZdrummer. Now that I can use it. There are a ton of really good preset beats and if you program a beat in a sequencer you should be able to hear it in the kit you choose from EZ. I highly recommend the additional expansion packs for the genre you play. Drum Kit from Hell rules for sound.

Chris
