Hey all, I have been working with a Swedish band named Prelife. I have posted a song called This Time and I'm looking for any feedback I can get. On this song I only acted as mixing engineer so I can't take credit for the tracking (which was awesome to work with)
Hope you like it!
Cheers!
Lonnie

I think the mix sounds really good Beerhunter. I do think for a "today" sound the mix might need to be a bit stronger in the lo-mid's.

vox I think you have them dialed in really well.
guitars are where I think you might need a bit more lo-mids, then again depends on the sound the band is going for too.

bass could be up a bit more and a little better defined.

drums sound good, kick could maybe use a bit better definition, sounds a little woody for lack of a better term.

That said I reallly do like the mix everything comes thru well and has a nice sound to it on my speakers, and in the phones sounds better still. :)

cool song, cool mix too.

only thing i will say is, and i guess its down to personal taste, the snare sound like it needs , i dunno, more dampening, or some bass/mid freq's notched out a bit on it.
it almost sounds like the snare key/pitch, is out, or low something.

i dunno, im quite possibly going bonkers though.

Well,it's really early here in AK so I am only listening on the laptop.

This sounds good, everything is well balanced and seems to have it's own place. I can't really hear the bass on my lappy though.

Nice work, it sure is fun to mix good tracks eh :)

I ran this track through HarBal and I am thinking that I didn't use the best reference for this tune. I am going to track down a better reference song. The song sounds great in Sonar but I think I'm messing it up a bit in the mastering process. Thanks for the input and I will update this thread once I run it through HarBal again. ,,,, also, and I really hate to say it but I'm going to have to squish this song quite a bit I think... ugh... not what I really want to do but for it to hold it's own against other songs in this genre I think I have to.

I agree on the kick and bass as well. The toms could use a bit of beefing up as well.

I'm hearing the snare clash now and then with the brass on the kit. I think a little more ball's on the snare would get that fixed.

But tweaking the tracks to get each one such as Bass ,Kick and the like punchier first and then running the mix to master will be good.

I agree though on the big Squish thing. I'd guess to compete your going to have to. But it would be good without it as well. There is a lot going on in this song that will loose some of its character when it gets squished.

I turned it up pretty good on the computer speakers, and I'd kinda agree with olddog about the low mids. I might boost the backup vox a little during the verses. Also, I felt like the vox were nice and up front, but that everything else was pushed too far back in comparison (except mabe the bass and kicks). Maybe you could try and bring the guitars forward a bit as well as the cymbals and snare. Just some food for thought from mr. nitpicky who doesn't even barely listen to rock.. ha.

Tune does sound quite good though (reference the nitpick comment).
