im about to make a partition for my guitar cab to block out room noise.
basicly ive got a frame thats the shape of a half cylinder, its diameter is the same as the width of the amp face which is a 4x12.
firstly, is this an ok width or does it need to be wider?
and secondly, what would be the best material to use to cover the framework?
would using 4 inch rockwool be ok, or too soaky?
I guess i need something that wont create too much noise when it reflects.

Jul 29, 2009 09:01 am I would double sheetrock the surface and cover that with very thin, dense carpet...perhaps make a couple, one like I mentioned and the other maybe just double sheetrock on the back side and densely pack insulation or other absorbing material facing the amp, then you have a couple options to choose from.

Jul 29, 2009 11:00 am Brandon made a guitar fort, over on recordingreview.com. He made it out of unopened bags of rockwool, or similar.
This changed his whole way of tracking crancked amps, as now he could turn them up and just hear the monitors (or at least mostly just the monitors).

You may have to reg & login to view, i dunno.
From what I've seen, you don't want any reflections at all. Just the signal going direct from speaker to mic. Kill everything else would be optimal, in my mind.
ymmv, etc.

Jul 29, 2009 08:12 pm Yeah i saw that pjk, i have about 3 bags here but the vol....hold on! i can just put those in front of the amp eh?
cool as. thanks you two, still, i might make the fame up with the rockwool.
though the packs just sitting in there would soak up a heap of the vol.
i'll sus it out.
cheers
