Tascam DP01FX USB help?

hey,

i saw another topic like this, but i couldn't really make sense of alot of it, and all the advice seemed to be about what to do once it is connected to export files, rather than connecting the tascam in the first place.

i'm trying to connect my dp01fx to my laptop to export stuff (individual tracks, hopefully. i read the manual and it says it can do that, because i prefer mixing on my laptop) via USB from the tascam to the laptop. I was using blank CD's and say i had 2 guitar tracks, i'd pan one left, one right, and master it that way, so that i had them seperated, so when i put them on CD and got them onto the laptop, i could just split them into 2 mono files so i had my 2 individual tracks. although, i use alot of layering and tracks, so this was hardly ideal. it took horrendously long, wasted too many CD's, etc etc

when i plug the device in it says something along the lines of 'USB device not recognised', does anyone know anything about this? my laptop is vista, the manual says it only goes up to XP, does that have anything to do with it by any chance?

thanks for any help you can give

Hi Carl,

The warning that the USB device is not recognized when you turn the DP-01 on, is normal. You get this message because the DP-01 is not in USB mode (yet). The plan is that you first make you recording(s), export the tracks to a special WAVE folder on the Tascam and then select USB mode.

Exporting your recorded tracks to WAV:
- Activate the Menu
- Scroll down to WAVE
- Press the right cursor key
- Go to Export Track
- Select the tracks using the Insert and cursor up and/or down keys
- Press Yes/Enter
- When the DP-01 is done repeat pressing Exit until the menu is closed.

Tascam USB mode:
- Press Menu
- Go to Disk
- Scroll down to USB OPN/CLS
- Press Yes/Enter
- Press Enter again to execute
- Press Yes/Enter again for the "Are you sure?" message

Now you will be in USB mode and you will be able to access the DP-01's hard drive and download the exported WAVE file(s).

Remember: the DP-01 will stay in USB mode until you remove the device using the Safely Remove Hardware option in Vista and then press Exit on the Tascam!

Again you will see the hardware is not recognized message, but you can happily ignore it.

Basically you can find everything in the manual...
