Problems Recording with Lexicon Alpha and Acid Pro 7

Hello, I'm relatively new to recording; most of my experience is with MIDI programs. But I bought an sm58 beta and a Lexicon Alpha recently and can't seem to get Acid Pro 7 to record with it. At one point Acid Pro 6 was recording fine using these, so I'm not sure where to begin in fixing this issue.

Any assistance would be great! My specs are listed below.

Windows XP Home Edition
3.0GHz Pentium 4
1.5 gigs RAM
Audio Drivers: Realtek AC97 Audio

Acid Pro 7 - Lexicon Alpha w/ Beta SM58 & Electrovoice RE20
Reason 4.01

Thanks in advance.

you need the ASIO4ALL audio driver i think for this, the Realtek is the stocky that comes with the computer, whatever software you got with the Lexicon should ave the ASIO included with it.

have a geezer at the setup instructions, should say in there what the go is.
you may even already have the ASIO, just might need to select it in your devices thingy bit in,

control panel>sounds speech and audio.

then check out where it says "realtek" and click on that, see what the options are there. hopefully the asio is there.

apart from that, in your software you should be able to choose the ASIO as your audio driver.
If not, then its possible the installation dint cut it and you might ave to reinstall, doubt it though.

Yep, you will need to install the drivers for the Lexicon and then select them as your main input and output drivers for Acid 7. That should clear it up and get you going.

One big thing to remember. Do not plug the Lexicon in via the USB until you have installed the driver package. After installation it should ask you to then plug it in and let windows finish the install.

I do suggest going to the Lexicon site and downloading the latest driver set up as well to insure a proper set up.

Well, I reinstalled my Realtek audio drivers, reinstalled the alpha drivers using a different usb port, swapped between the four options that Acid Pro gives me for audio devices (Microsoft Sound Mapper, Direct Sound Surround Mapper, Windows Classic Wave Driver, Alpha ASIO Driver), and changed settings in the Sound and Audio Devices Properties window of the control panel.

Even selecting my default audio recording device as "Lexicon Alpha In/Out" doesn't seem to work; it won't even record in Microsoft's Sound Recorder program that comes with XP.

I'm at a loss as to what to do, any suggestions?

Well the Alpha ASIO driver is the one you would want for good performance.

You seem to have everything checked and selected properly.

One big thing though as stated above.

Did you install the drivers with the Alpha unplugged and then plug it in after the drivers install was finished and told you to plug it in?

If not, that could be the issue you are having. The drivers show as being installed, but windows simply will not initiate them as the correct procedure was not followed.

Turns out the XLR cable was broken, had to solder it back and now it works perfectly.

Sorry to have you put you gents through explaining everything!
