Well I have a very powerfull pc.
Intel Q6600 with 4gb Mushkin Ascent Ram, 1 TB hard drive 32mb cache + 320 gig hard drive, 24 inch screen, Ati 4870 512mb, vista 64 etc...
My pc is big, I paid 1626$can for it, and I can sell it 1600$ right now.
I also just bought from ebay for home recording purpose: M-audio fast track Ultra, M-audio BX5a Deluxe and Protools m-powered 8.
I never tried a mac but may be tempted to go and buy one. I will have to move the computer around to where my band practice to record drums. Imac seems to be easy to move.
Or maybe a pc laptop. I am jsut affraid of vista stability and don't want to loose everything. And mac laptop are to costly for me. I want to use the 1600$ of the copmuter I am selling.

May 15, 2009 07:38 am In my opinion, $1600 in the Mac world won't get you anywhere near the power you have now...and that's coming from a Mac guy. I say stick with what you have and learn to use it well. Save up for better mics or software plugins or something. Moving a computer is a hassle, true, but it's worth it.
Welcome to HRC!

May 15, 2009 12:36 pm If you can sell your Q6600 system for $1600 then do it. Then go buy yourself a new PC that will be more powerfull, cost less, and spend that extra money on mics :)
May 15, 2009 06:17 pm The problem is that I have 4gigs of memory and use Vista 64. I bought Protools m-powered 8 it does not support vista 64. So I really don't know what to do. Will ubuntu linus work for this?
Do i switch back to windows xp and lsoe 1 gig of memory?
dual boot...!?
May 15, 2009 06:21 pm I'd say forget m-powered and go for something like Sonar or Cubase...
May 15, 2009 06:52 pm I have work a lot this last 8 months on pro tools and fell in love with it.
I help record my bassist otehr band. It gave me the opportunity to discover Protools wich now I really want to use!
I may sell my pc and buy an Imac jsut for this...
May 16, 2009 05:58 am It may be worth talking to Digi and seeing if/when they are going to support Vista64...or, just buying a copy of XP and using it...it seems silly to dump a decent PC for the issue.

I don't know too many running PT on an iMac though either that are doing big projects.
