Stereo Channels on my board

The last two channels on my mixing board are "stereo" with two inputs. What would I use this for? I understand stereo but I thought it was only using both channels of the amp for each speaker and so forth.

Effects, CD player, another board. What ever you have that is line level, and stereo.

I have a Yorkville PowerMax16, and it too wants line-level into the stereo inputs. You can, however, run a mono signal to the Left (Mono) 1/4" balanced jack (just below the RCA jacks on the Stereo channel), and it will route that signal to both R & L amps. I use this for my wireless mic receiver (line-level) output, because I am kind of short on channels in some cases. The 1/4" jack is a balanced input (TRS), but I just run a 2-conductor instrument cord (1/4" to 1/4") between my wireless and the mixer, and it works great. Yorkville even says you can connect up to the 1/4" jacks AND the RCA's at the same time. There will be no level control between these two inputs, so the hotter signal will win, but I run my loops to the RCA jacks, and the wireless to the 1/4". I never have the wireless running when I'm playing loops, so I save inputs for other stuff. I'm not sure if your mixer has this capability, but if so, this may give you an idea of other stuff you can use the stereo channels for.

Hey Jim, as for will it hit both the left and right? It depends. Some boards are set up that way to run the left only to the left, and the right only to the right. Other, if you just plug a 1/4" into the left, it stays mono until you plug something into the right.

You'll just have to try it, and see how they wired that channel up.

I use an insert cable that has 2 ts 1/4 jacks an 1 stereo mini trs to insert my Ipod for separate vol control, just like a cd player..

Keyboards are often stereo, capable of left and right output. These would plug into the two input channel.

Also, drum machines can output stereo, which would plug into a stereo input on the board.

Plus the other stuff mentioned, but I think keyboards are a big use of stereo inputs on a board. Keyboards most often will output line level, left, and right signal. These plug right into your stereo channel.
