Speaker Query

Please don't judge to harshly.

I have a behringer xenyx 1024fx mixing desk which I am having great fun with.

Unfortunatley I had to use headphones and would like to have speakers. Now most you seem to be quite pro and have great speakers with xlr line in's and all that.

Well I can't afford all that I'm afraid and would be looking to spend something like £40 - £50. OK that realy does limit things.

Now there are speakers out there (Beringer make a few in this price range) but most are where you push the speaker wire into the back and it's held in via spring clip. Unfortunately these wires are rearly supplied with speakers which only cost £50. Which leaves me with this problem.

How can I connect the mixer to low cost speakers using the xlr outputs from the desk?

Any ideas for purchasing or advise on cable building would be great.

I'm not much of an authority in this area, but I have a feeling that I won't find a lot of opposition to this bit of advice: keep saving until you can afford some decent monitors.

Tuck away a couple of dollars (pounds, Euros, whatever hehe) every day or every week. In a few months you'll be able to afford at least something decent like the entry-level M-Audio, KRK, Edirol or even a step-up model of Behri monitors. A little more saving and you can do Yamaha, Mackie or something similar. It'd be a pity to spring for a pair of monitors that'd be about the same as a normal pair of computer speakers as far as flat response and power handling.

I'm right with Tad on this one Junkie. If there was anything that was the most important in getting a good mix it's the speakers you use to mix. They're the key to being able to take something you've recorded to the CD player in your car or home stereo and having it sound like you expect. You'd be surprised how great something can sound when mixing only to find that what you end up with on CD is totally different.

Save up, cheap monitors would be a waste of money. I would save until you hit at least the $300 mark.

Thanks everyone. I sort of expected this response. I haven't much free cash but I'll save and I'm sure I will notice a huge difference when I finally get some decent monitors.

Thanks again
