I'm in need of some help connecting a stereo mic to my system:
I'm trying to connect an electret condenser stereo mic into my external sound-card. The mic has a male mini stereo (1/8") plug, and the sound-card has the following inputs:
Mic (XLR)
Guitar (1/4")
S/PDIF (single RCA in)
Unbalanced line inputs (pair of 1/4" ins)
I'm thinking I could get an adaptor (1/8" to XLR) and plug into the Mic input. I'm not sure if there's any other way I could do it, and even then, I'm not sure I'd be receiving a stereo signal. Stereo is not crucial for my current needs, but it would be nice if there was a way to do it.
For reference, the mic is a Sony ECM-DS70P, and the sound-card is an M-Audio FireWire Solo.
Thanks for any and all help!

Mar 22, 2009 06:23 pm You will need to use an 1/8" TRS mini female to dual mono 1/4" TRS plug adapter. The plug that into the Line Inputs on the back of the unit.
The mono 1/4 jacks will have on e left and one right to allow for the stereo mic to work and record a stereo signal.
Hosa and several others make that adapter cable.

I am curious though, won't it be problematic to send a mic signal into line inputs? Would I have to first send it to a preamp?
Thanks again.

Mar 22, 2009 08:22 pm Ah yes, that looks like it would need some kind of power supplied to it. I was thinking that was one of the battery powered ones with its own pre built in.
Honestly I'm not sure how you could go about using that one with your interface. I am pretty shure the pre amp circuit will be more juice then that little thing can handle. And as well not even sure it would provide it correctly as odd's are good it isn't wired to function with a normal pre amp. Its purpose built for use with the MD recorder's and such.

Thanks anyway!

Mar 22, 2009 08:59 pm Ya, its always worth a shot. Sorry as well, I was thinking all the ECM models had their own battery supply for the internal pre amp. Not that one though.
