Hello all:
Never done any home recording before, so I recently purchased a Lexicon Alpha input and Cubase LE4 software, and I have a problem:
How do I record in stereo? I am using a Audio-technica Proformance P615 microphone plugged into the xlr on the back of the Lexicon, and I have the track I want to record in set up in stereo, but can only get audio on the right.
I have tried to record in mono, but with no luck it would appear.
There's more to my problems than just this, but I thought I'd keep it simple to start with.
Thanks for any help in advance!
Cheers!

Mar 10, 2009 07:09 pm Hi again...
Not sure why the hypertext links on certain words in my posting...
It seems a little distracting.
Mar 10, 2009 07:16 pm A single source is mono. You're trying to record a mono source to a stereo track.
Don't do that = no problem.
Don't think in "left and right" - A mix isn't a stereo mix until something is mixed in stereo (stereo being the [/b]difference[/b] between two discrete sources). Think in "1 and 2 and (etc.)"
You need to assign your input to whatever your input is. If you're plugging into channel one on your interface, you need to record input one in the DAW.
I'd take a guess that you're plugged into input 2 and the input track is defaulting to 1.

Mar 10, 2009 11:26 pm Right, definitely recording a mono source into a stereo track. Don't forget that the manuals came on CD and are available through the Help menu in Cubase. If not, here's a link to the Alpha manual on Lexicon's website:

To set the input of the track to record:
1. Click the Project menu and select Add Track | Audio. When the Add Audio Track dialog appears, click OK.
2. Make sure the Show Inspector button , located in the upper left corner of the screen is lit. The Inspector window appears on the left side of the screen.
3. In the Inspector, click the Left - Stereo In: box and select Stereo In - Left for the track input source. (Stereo In - Left relates to Line 1/Inst, Stereo In - Right relates to Line 2/Mic inputs.)

Mar 11, 2009 08:13 pm Looks like they have ya covered there Stephen.
I'll just add that those hyper-text links you see in the post's are how this site stays up and running.
Most times they will be accurate and link to advertisers that deal with the product. Sometimes they are not and need to be weeded out.
But that should answer that.

Mar 13, 2009 08:42 pm Ya, and they are not made anymore. I would be lost without the thing.
They are selling on ebay now used for just under and upwards of $200 US
I paid $30 for it years ago, and should have bought 10 of the things.
I've seen the new ones in the box going for almost $500 US now. Its fargin ridiculous.

Mar 15, 2009 06:39 pm Ya, its actually 5 programmable buttons, scroll wheel is under your thumb, with the wheel being one of three buttons on the left and then two on the right. And the optical trackball is about the size of a handball or raquetball I guess. Its really nice. And like I said, I will be lost if it ever craps out on me.

Mar 16, 2009 09:44 pm Thanks so much for the time and information Tadpui and others.... It seems though that I am still missing something: I click on the stereo in section of the interface, and the only choice I have is already checked - stereo in...
What might I be missing?
Again, thanks in advance...

Apr 12, 2009 11:18 am You probably have the mono button pressed and are recording a mono signal and leaving it panned either left or right on playback. In Cubase LE make sure after the track is recorded to pan it to the center or wherever for playback in the mix.

Apr 13, 2009 05:30 am in cubase, you also need to change the input in your track window to "stereo in"
by default its on "stereo left in"
Jun 06, 2011 06:45 pm Hi guys,
I am having a similar problem to this except I'm using Audacity. Having said that, it may not be Audacity that is the problem: I used Windows Sound recorder and seemed to get the same thing.
Bascially:
1) When running a vocal mic (SM58) through the alpha, it's only recording in the Right channel on audacity, and not recording at all when set to record in Mono.
2) When running my electric guitar through the alpha, it's only recording in the Left channel, but is recording fine in Mono.
I hear this in both audacity and sound recorder, and I can see it on the wave forms in audacity.
I have played with cubase briefly before, and found the switching inputs quite easy, but can't find that stuff on audacity - it just lets me choose the alpha as a whole in the 'recording devices' bit.
Is this the problem? Any ideas?
Nov 13, 2011 11:35 am Robbie - I'm having the same problem. Did you have any luck fixing it?
Thanks
