Samson MDR1064

Hi there,

Currently our band is recording using a Yamaha MG16/6fx mixer. We only need its preamps. We also use it to mix guitar, bass, drums, vocals and keys together and send them to our headphone amp for in-ear monitoring.

Unfortunately we borrowed this great mixer and now the owner wants it back, which leaves us with nothing.

I am not too familiar with the mixingdesk world, but I found this mixer which would seem the perfect solution for what we need: Samson MDR1064 for $200.

Does anyone have any experience with this machine? Basically I need to know if it has a good preamp. There's also the much more expensive MDR10 that has 10 mic preamps instead of 6, a DSP effectsprocessor which we don't need and uses faders instead of knobs.

Thanks for reading, greets Rowan.

EDIT: Or should this topic be in the gear forum..?

The topic could be in the gear gab forum. I can move it if you wish.

On the Samson mixer. They have not always had the best reputation, but have improved their gear in the last year or two. They are still though a budget gear maker in the end. That price is a little high for what you are getting really.

You might want to try a used gear place if there is one around. Music Go Round are good for this type of gear. Also you can find many things on Craigs List as well.

IS $200 your budget on this then or are you looking to go up or down?

There are a ton of choices out there, some better and some worse.

Thanks Noize for your reply. It's ok the topic could stay here.

My budget is $300, and I am looking for a mixer that is able to let us record 8 different tracks at once through its preamps, and has a stereo-out for in-ear monitoring using our Behringer HA 4700.

The quality of the Yamaha MG16/6fx preamps was perfect for us, and I am looking for something similar.

Thanks for the site, never heard of it. I hope they ship international :) I'll check it out today thank you.

OK then Craigs List is kind of like an internet want add thing. Its based around many cities in the US.

Were exactly are you then?

I see. :-)

If I have a few minutes this weekend I'll try and find a couple that might get you closer to matching the Yamaha mixer you were used to using.
