hi, i have a waveform/parts i need to glue together and when i do i still here it clicking over the glued part. ive had a zoom in to that part and tried to pencil the wave to meet up in that area but it still clicks.
has anyone tried doing this before?
does it work, im sure ive done it in the past but cant rmemeber if it worked.

Jan 19, 2009 10:55 pm Yeap. If you are using Cubase(might be in other DAWs too) Use what's called a crossfade. It blends the two track perfectly so it doesn't click.
What causes the click is the interruption of the bit word in that sample. You actually want to splice into a point at 0 or unity. Not lining the two points but at the 0 mark if you don't have crossfade.

Jan 19, 2009 11:37 pm i guess you were wondering why i just dint use a crossfade. i guess this saves me starting another thread at least.
well....my friggin crossfade is more like a crossfade if youre on good drugs, meaning, that i cant get the middle of the dam things to cross. its all on this p**, ive been everywhere trying to get just a "straight" crossfade but the piece of crap wont budge. basicly its like its modded to bend and what not and i cant get it off.
been thru the crossfade settings and all that but man im stumped. been thru preferences too.
this friggin project is drivin me nuts.
i dont wanna import the tracks into a new proji coz other wise i gotta set it all up again. its near completion.
man if you got some suggesties, would be greatful. cheers.
Jan 19, 2009 11:58 pm Zoom in really close of the cross fade and narrow the edges down to damn close. Should take care if it. Just make sure that you're two files are overlapping just a little.

Jan 20, 2009 12:27 am even if i shorten the left handle of the xfade, the short leg just moves along with it.
Jan 20, 2009 12:39 am Well, in that pic, you should have the 7th from the left blue box selected. But, you shouldn't even have to refer to the box... I'll take a pic of mine and show you.
Jan 20, 2009 12:45 am You'll need the equal gain tab selected along with, try to click the 7th straight button then the first button. That should straight it out.
Then, you can just move these together.

Jan 20, 2009 01:35 am ok well that's sounds like it could be it then. coz when i try to choose the straight line (7th one) it wont highlight.
it sounds like something in preferences but i cant think what, ive had 3 looks at it but i dunno what it would be.
onl thing ive cn rememebr changing is auto dissolve but that's f midi. well i think it is.
its never done this before.

Jan 20, 2009 04:08 am hey Cynic cheers for ya input but i found the cause.
maybe something for you to remember in the future too if it ever happens to you.
ok what i did firstly is a bit of a no-no, but at some point i grabbed the volume of all the waves at once and raised it which made them also bigger.
so basicly when i went to do my crossfades, coz the wave was technically out of it natural shape which was softer, the crossfade followed it, changing the overshape of its appearance.
in a nutshell, dont mess with the wave volume. geez, cant beleieve i actuallly figured it all out.
same thing would happen if it was normalized, which effecivley was what i did.
ok you can say it...dumb ***!
that i am.
Jan 20, 2009 01:40 pm Lol. I'm just glad you figured it out. But, I raise the gain of the waves all the time to make it a little more manageable.
Good luck man!
Oh! I have a new song up on my Elephunt page. www.myspace.com/elephuntmusic

Jan 20, 2009 08:26 pm Doesn't Cubase have a function called Snap to Zero Crossing?
You simply zoom into the wav froms and drop one over the other and it will simply snap to the zero crossing and do a perfect match up of the clips.
What a hassle to have to mess about with all the cross fading and stuff. I'd just as soon go back to splicing tape myself. :-)
Glad ya got it sorted though for sure.

Jan 20, 2009 10:05 pm that it does noize, dint even know about that.
will check it out.
the problem i was having though and the reason for using xfades is, to get the sustain on one note i needed i had to play the notes and basicly copy the same thing over and over and splice em together, the difference in the sustain, even for second was to great to just match em up.
hey Cynic, yeah man the new track is kickin! i especially love the bit at around 3:50, good heavy chuggin **** man! your style is great, using a baritone?
Jan 20, 2009 10:40 pm Haha. Thanks brotha. I'm gonna remix it cause some stuff sounds very home studio. But, I'm using a baritone 7string. Haha.

Feb 03, 2009 02:45 am interpolating that particular part would most probably help.it has been working for me all this time.
Feb 03, 2009 01:09 pm Are you serious!? You were asking how to turn your PC into a mixer and now you say something like that. You either suffer from a bi-polar disorder, or you're an idiot.

Feb 03, 2009 05:02 pm ha ha ha ha.
actually, they use an ebow on this song, which i dont know how to spell, but its some contraption wid a battery that gives ya guitar mega sustain by sending viabrations thru it. mi-nute ones though.
my mate had one here the whole time and i dint know.
