I have a good friend that is in of help here.

He has a show that is on Sirius/XM. And has been making the trek between NY and Philly to deliver his show. Sirius/XM thought this is ridicules. And they are going to be putting a Dalet work station in his place. He has been asking for my help on recording his show digitally before. And I had set him up with a Lexicon Omega, Dell desktop, and his assortment of CD players and his broadcast board.

The problem that I tried to over come with him, is his style of recording. He is a radio DJ that has been around since the 70's. And for 30 years, he has been use to doing his shows on the fly. Doing everything in real time.

He does his intro, then lays down the tracks that he wants in real time. I tried to no avail to show him that he can have all of the tracks that he wants preloaded in a file. Then just drag and drop. That is a little beyond him at the moment.

I have never heard of a Dalet work station. And have no clue on how to instruct him on continuing in the style that he is use to working in on it.

Any advice that you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. And I will make sure that he plugs the HRC on some of his shows.

The recording programs that he has right now are Adobe Audition, and Cubebase LE. I don't know if the Delet work station even allows for these formats. He does use a 414 for his vocals, that runs through his broadcast board. And he only has to worry about 2 tracks.

OK, just heard from him. And he wants his name used and his show mentioned on this post. Like it matters. But, that's what he wants.

His name is Micheal Tearson. And the name of the show is the Dillon Radio Hour. And he will be doing some other Dillon shows for Sirius/XM.

Any thoughts or suggestion?

Rob, I may be able to shed some light on this. But it'll have to wait until the morrow as I'm in the middle of finishing a quick project into the wee hours.

In short, it is a media organizing tool type software. I believe it has its own file format as well. It has version's to handle audio and video as well I believe.

Its a software that allows quick selection and editing of media files. Its pretty straight forward, but I am not certain on the compatibility with other software systems.

I'll get back to you though for sure.

I am wondering if Herb as well may have a handle on this.

The Dalet system is pretty straightforward if one is used to working with media applications. Here's a look at a typical setup:

It might look a little intimidating at first, but it's not complicated really. Mostly drag and drop, and it just takes a little getting used to.

Rob, tell Michael not to freak out. Have him sleep with the Help PDF under his pillow. After he plays with it for a little while, it'll be cake.

These '70s DJs... :-D

Yep, he will still be doing most everything the same. With the ability to do it all a bit faster and in one simple application. I know he may be familiar with the cart set up and this integrates that into the system. It is as Herb said simple drag and drop to make it all work.

Also, he will find they are very good at helping the newbie get going with the system. www.dalet.com/Dalet-Professional-Services

In here lies the problem. Drag and drop. For some reason, he does not grasp the concept. It's almost as if he needs to hear the music as it records. Without it, he doesn't have a clue as to what his segue into the nest song will be.

Looking at the links that you guys gave me. It seems that he maybe able to do his real time recordings. The only question that I have on that is, will the file become fragmented when recording an hour long show in real time?

I remember other programs being subject to this when recording in a straight time format. Being the way that a hard drive writes to the disk.

Rob, the Dalet system will allow him to not only record on the fly, but he can listen to cue himself up to whatever he drags in to the rotation for the next song or bit that is up.

Exactly what kind of file has he been supplying them, wav files, mp3 or what?

AS for becoming fragmented, I don't think so. IT should be a straight ahead process just like going to tape or Adobe or what have you.

The format I am not sure of at the moment. They should be setting it up here soon. Then I should know.

I'm just glad to hear that it will be straight forward for the recording. That should make my job a little bit easier. Being that I have to train someone on a system that I have never used myself.

Its really not much different then dragging files around for a media player type software. Its pretty straight forward for sure.
