Help with DTXPlorer Recording

I've got a DTXPlorer electric drum kit and a midi in/out to usb interface, I am trying to record and play back my drum sounds but I am not sure how to do it. I need some help, everything is installed and I don't know what to do. Also I'm trying to configure this with either Mixcraft or Audacity, whatever I can use would be fine as long as the quality isn't horrible. :(

If you just want to record the drums and play them back you can simply record the audio outputs of the kit.

If you want/need to record the midi output as well you'll need to create a midi track, select the midi input device (USB interface) and channel (10 for drums usually) and arm the track. If you're going to monitor the kit from within the software you need to turn Local Control off on the DTExplorer in it's options, otherwise leave it on and monitor from DT's headphone jack or however you have it setup to hear what you're playing.

I would recommend Reaper for a cheap decent DAW program, it's free to try with no time limit and only $50 if you decide to keep using it beyond it's trial period. I'm not familiar with MixCraft, and Audacity IMO is not a very good/user friendly piece of software.

You may need an adapter to convert the DT outputs over to something that will plug into your PC inputs. If you're using your onboard soundcard as your PC inputs, then you'll have to convert the (2) 1/4" plugs over to a single 1/8" stereo plug. This will then carry the two signals from the DT to your PC.

Here's a linky:

Be sure you use the LINE IN on your sound card, not the MIC input. The DT will send out LINE level signal, not MIC level signal.

This assumes you just want to record the sounds coming from the DT, like Dan mentioned. If you want to record the MIDI data, then Dan answered that nicely.
