Bands new EP

My band finished our ep today. Wondered what everyone thinks on both a musical and recording aspect.

As for the recording. All 4 songs were home recorded live on a TASCAM 2488 mkII. Last album we didnt record live and I dont think it captured the feel of the band. Vocals and solos were the only thing overdubbed. Bass was direct with a sans amp, guitar was amped and mic'd, and drums were mic'd (bass, snare, 2 overheads). We then mixed on the tascam and master in protools.

Any thought or opinions would greatly appreciated. Particularly if think something could have been recorded or mixed better.

Thanks for listening.

Alright, had a listen this afternoon. Although I liked the tunes and they sound as if they were recorded well it is the end mix that is not giving them the life they deserve.

By that I mean you need to spend more time tweaking each track in the mix to sound individual. Whether that be with simple EQ or reverb.

While the vocals sound good, they lack depth and division from the mix when things get busy or louder. Learning to automate levels here would really help out huge. And a bit of EQ on the vocal will really help get it away from the main part of the mix and into its own space.

The drums as well need a bit of EQ and reverb to help place them in the mix. They tend to come and go in and out with the level changes of the guitars and bass. The reverb will help with the kind of dry sound they have.

Over all the songs are great and do sound pretty good as is. the arrangements are good and keep the listener into it, so that is a plus as well.
