Boxing: Anyone else into it

I started boxing training again yesterday for the first time after a long break.

**** me! I'd forgotten just how bloody tiring it actually is!

Was wondering though, am I likely to do any sort of damage that will affect the way I play the guitar? Anyone else box? Any ideas? I suppose it will be OK providing that I have my hands well strapped and don't go too crazy.

I am more into kickboxing myself. One thing, and obviously, if you do any finger damage (had a friend tear ligaments in his fingers boxing) it'll mess you up for a while. Otherwise, it can only be a good thing. Even hand strapping won't help you fingers like that.

I knew the minute I read the thread title this video would be here when I got here.

JDOD, good to take it back up again. But as you stated, protect the hands for sure.

Been boxing again for a few months now.

Really enjoying it, can't believe how much my fitness has improved. I'm 6', comfortably at middleweight and hovering around the 10% body fat mark.

Been keeping my knuckles well wrapped (tried a variety or wrapping techniques) and have had no real problems. In fact as my technique is getting better I'm hitting a lot harder but any hand pain (there was a little initially) is reducing. Must be down to better technique and getting blows to land cleanly.

Plan is to train like **** now and hopefully start having a few fights in the autumn.

I've also cut back on the booze a lot. (although I did go out and get shitfaced on Friday and Saturday last weekend but it was an exception)

I am going back to kickboxing tonight for the first time in a while, I dropped some weight to take some off my knees, now I think I need to go back to keep the weight coming off. I gotta drop another 20 or so.

I'm not having any visions of fighting, just exercise. Hell, the way my trainer runs his classes, some wind up being fights...just not one that applies to your record. Once I get my body back in shape I wanna get back to grappling too...
