Hey Folks,

Just came around this forum here and it looks very intersting.

I recorded a song yesterday and would like to know if somebody have some mixing advices for me.

The recording was done with a SM58 and a TC Konnekt 24d soundcard. I personally find the vocals very hard in the front and would like to have them a little bit more "in the mix".

Here's the song:

Would appreciate any help on this :)

Cheers,
Mike

Yeah, the vocals are a bit inconsistent...I'd apply a touch more compression to even them out a bit but not kill the dynamics, and perhaps a little reverb can help sink them back a little bit, they do sound out of the mix.

Instrumentally I think you need some fills and such here and there to cure the boredom of the same riffs over and over again.

Overall, decent song, just needs some spicing up.

Cool, many thanks for the quick answer! I will try to put some more compression on the voice and some more reverb!

I actually find it kinda hard to decide which reverb to use and especially which settings to apply them. It's ok for drums and electronic music like I do most of the time. But for vocals..Man..Do you maybe have some suggestions?

Thanks again, I think this forum is really what I've been searching for! :)

I hear a lot of people use plate reverb...it's been so long since I've recorded a vocal, I don't even remember, I had some presets, based on plates I believe...

Also, a stereo imager/widener may help the sound too...worth a try anyway.

Yep, completely agree on trying to find a plate type reverb, which almost all plugin verbs have. And use it just enough to settle the voice back a bit.

I would for sure though use a bit of compression first on it to even it out.

Then a final touch could be as dB stated a bit of image widening or stereo width.

And filling it out a bit can be something as easy as some simple piano riff's spread about in the piece.

I am with dB though and liking the song over all for sure.
