Audio Routing

Hey, ive been trying to figure out this issue for a while now. Basically, I have my primary Sound Card on my PC which is hooked up to my Surround Sound kit. This sound card is also hooked up to a 3-way input select posing as Line-In, so that audio from my TV, PS2 and other peripherals can be routed to the surround sound speakers via my PC - all I have to do is easily turn a dial to select where i want the audio to come from.

This is fine for normal use however, I also have a set of Headphones that were bought for me which are USB. This poses a problem since Windows detects them as two seperate Sound Cards.

If its late at night and i dont want to be making loads of noise, i switch off the surround sound and go to my headphones (duh), but i cant have the audio from the TV (for example) playing through my headphones :( because its a different sound card as far as Windows is concerned.

So is there anyway of getting the Line-In from my actual Sound Card to Output through to my Headphones which are perceived as a different Sound Card all together?

Thanks alot for replies, greatly appreciated. Unfortunately i havent been able to find any appropriate discussions about something like this. My case seems to be quite unique ^^

It can be done by simply going to the windows audio control panel and going to the advanced section. Then you will simply set the audio outputs to go to the headphones.

Not an ideal situation though. Most of those USB headphones will cause issues at times when trying to do this type of thing.

But you won't muck things up simply trying it as you can simply switch it back if it does not do what you need.

Ok, thanks ill try it out. I wasnt aware that Windows could actually cope with that. Ive seen the settings but never considered the idea.

Cheers :)

Ok, ive been still trying to work on this issue. The aforementioned solution doesnt appear to work i still have no Audio being routed from my Soundcard to be USB Headphones (which are seen as a seperate soundcard).

There does appear to be an application (Virtual Audio Cables) that does the job, but the quality is pretty much terrible. It seems to clone the input of one device and output to another. Is there any other way this can be mimicked without such a degradation in sound quality?

If you using the Ntonyx VAC version 4.09 then sadly no there is not another that I can find.

Are you using a demo you downloaded from some other site the the Ntonyx site?

That might be worth a try going there directly to give their demo a try.
