CD Label Software?

Posted on

I looked back through a couple of months, and didn't see any discussion on this. So I'm asking...

What software do people use for designing (and printing) CD labels? What's especially good? Or bad? Or free?

Thanks,
Harry

I used one of the memorex setups from best buy. They are cheap and get the job done.

I use photoshop for actually designing my labels though.

It's been a while, but as I recall Nero has a little application in it for doing basic label design work...most media burning applications have some level of label design options in them.

I think avery offers the templates for word, on their website. Just draw up the layout in word, and print to their label sheets.

Otherwise, I've used lightscribe, so no sticky needed.

(at work I use a dymo, i'm so lazy)

I also think Nero has a layout program. I keep getting the page come up when I'm burning at home (the lightscribe PC).

It's slow. like a half-hour for high res.

Shows everything in a sepia type mono-color.

Eeeeyo- don't use adhesive paper labels on the CDs themselves. The glue will soften if they get warm - such as in a hot car - and the label will separate from the disc, which can (will) spell an unhappy day for your car's CD deck. Learned this one the hard way.

I use a Sharpie now.

I picked up a printer that prints directly onto CD's and it works great. Only drawback is the price of the CD's however the color is awesome. HP Photosmart ~ $80

I, too, have an HP Photosmart that prints right on the disc. It's pretty sweet. Not professional results, but good enough for demos and stuff.

Yeah, now if I only had some new music to burn on to a CD. Actually, I have a few songs, just not the ambition to record them... Put me down for that New Year's thing too. That gives me another month to put it off.

I as well use LiteScribe here.

They now have colored disc's so it isn't all mono-chrome anymore. But you can make some pretty intense designs and graphics with the LiteScribe disc's.

And depending on the ink those HP disc printers can rock. You really need to use the printer that runs the 5 cartridge Vivera inks. That is the only way to get good results.

Using a good design program helps as well. But actually you can do a whole lot with Nero and Paint if you are careful.

Nero does have a very good label design program in it if you use the full on Nero.

I've been using it for my LiteScribe vurning and it works great.

Hey pjk, I don't have to wait that long unless I use the old box. And even that one doesn't take near that long.

On the newer box I can burn at the highest contrast/rez and it is done in pretty short order.

I'm using a mac and I use one by Epson called Print CD ( available for pc too )
epson-print-cd.software.informer.com/

And Disc Cover ( Not sure if this is available for pc )
www.belightsoft.com/produ...er/overview.php

I print straight to disc with both of these. They are easy to use with great results. I really wanted to like LiteScribe but it was too slow when I tried it a couple of years ago. I will have to give it another try.

With those measurements I used the "stroke" (on the edit pulldown menu) command in PhotoShop (Elements) to make a black outline of the outer edges and saved that as a "template". DVD Label Software
