external harddrive issue,
as advised by the guy at the music store (and posts on forums) i piced up a external firewire harddrive.

the chap at the store also suggested daisy chaining the hard drive from the second firewire on the presonus so the stup is like (COmputer > Presonus > Hard drive) problem is, when i do this i get constant freezes and audio drops when recording, and sometimes a freeze on file save) every thing seems to work fine whne i go back to the laptops internal HD

any suggestions? its a 7200 rpm 500gb drive freshly defraged

Was the chap at the store on crack?

Seriously though, you can daisy chain other gear, but I would never daisy chain an external HD. I don't even run them through a hub or anything as that is not a good idea at all.

But yes, that is causing the crashing for sure.

Yeah, that is an odd way of doing things.

My laptop only has one firewire port so.... I bought an external that supports both firewire and usb2. When I use the UX8 (usb) I run the harddrive off firewire, when I run the Mackie (firewire) I run the hard drive off USB.

One other oddity, I have to turn off my wireless NIC unless recording to the internal drive. If I don't I get drops.

Yeah, the data would have to go from the presonus, back to the motherboard, then back out the firewire into the presonus, then over to the HD.

ick!

Both the interface and HD will want to have very high throughput, as they're both trying to stream data realtime.

Putting them on their own firewire port should fix that problem. Or, like Capt'n said, Try a USB2 HD, so the presonus can stay all by itself on FW.
