Vox Tonelab + Tascam USB

Hello everyone. Beginner here with a couple basic questions about recording through a Tonelab and Tascam USB144. I've searched everywhere I can think of and have gotten close, but still have a few questions.

1) S/PDIF- the Vox has a Toslink out but the Tascam has a Coax in. I know there are converters out there, but do you lose quality/data with these?

2) If I connect the tonelab to my computer via S/PDIF and the Tascam, will I be able to use the tonelab editing software or do I need to go directly from the tonelab to the computer? The manual isn't very clear about this.

3) Anyone ever try to run a bass guitar through a tonelab? Some fo the effects could be cool, but I don't want to blow the thing.

Thanks to all who can help me out!

1: No you won't loose any quality as it never leaves the digital realm.

2: As far as I know you can only use the editing software via the midi i/o ports. That is how it communicates with that portion of the unit. The S/PDIF is for audio only unless Vox has something up their sleeve.

3: I have never run a bass through a Tonelab, but have done it through Line 6 gear and other modelers and it works fine. And yes, it can sound pretty cool.

Thanks Noize2U. You know I think you answered a question for me before, unless there's another Stewie running around here. This forum is great.
