What are your PC's spec's? CPU speed and amount of RAM? That will help to try and figure out what might be going on.

You may have mentioned the problem in the first line: only 1 Gig of RAM could be the culprit here.

To run VST's efficiently today takes about 2 gigs of ram minimum. They are for the most part the biggest processing hogs in a DAW. I'm not real familiar with how efficient the engine is in Cubase Studio 4 but I would assume they have trimmed it out like many others have to run pretty lean these days to allow for more power to be used by the VST's. But the VST's will eat up system resources in a hurry, especially reverbs. You can however do things such as freeze tracks to free up some CPU cycles and ram.

ok
yea reverb self is what i think it is dont stop continue so i can get to know more im trying to get some more in ram like tomorow so and let you know how it work out but its good to know cause i was like getting crazy seeing that i couldnt get just the one song im working on cant play right you kbnow that feeling

2 Extra Gigs will do wonders and it should take care of any memory related song hiccups. Also, remember what Noize said about freezing tracks, that can come in handy at any time.

ok im back
i added 2 gigs more of ram to the one i had so total is 3 gigs
now my processors is MD sempron 3400+
is that good or should i upgrade to a better processor

hope this works for you.. just a question in the bottom left of your control panel in cubase (the thing with play and rewind and all on it) theres a meter called asio time usage, does this peak out and go red when you get these skips and sticks? cause mine does, and i have 4 gigs of ram..

im sorry i never really notice
but i think its the same when you look at
vst performance window there is a asio meter and a disk meter and
when ever the asio meter peak in hundred a you see a orange light that is when its stick and skip.
ok its seems to be much better now that i upgraded the ram but that still didnt solve the problem,i must say it doesnt do it on a regular no more, have me wondering if its the processor i have to upgrade
if anyone can answer me on that qst would be nice and atleast give some advice on what can be done.

The Sempron 4300+ should be plenty for it.

I'm wondering if there are other programs such as virus protection or the like running in the background. That can also cause issues as it is eating up system resources.

i had lots of program running in the tray but i read a article in the tips section and i tried to get rid of all the programs that is running i only have one program running like i cant seems to get rid of that one and that is the anti virus firewall or something as soon i figure out how to get rid of it i would see if its running better.
if i can only find an article that would help me on that one would be nice.
or maybe i should uninstall antivirus and call it the day

Just curious, how is your buffer set. On my old Layla rig I could drop it as low as 64 which was great in regards to latency but would only handle a couple tracks before poppin and a clickin. Just something else to check, I usually track at 256 and mix around 4096.

sample rate i can tell you about and i can go to 44100 the lowest i dont think i can go any lower the highest is 480000
now buffer i dont think i can set that in the omega if im wrong some one plzz tell me that i am.
but with sample rate i still doesnt see any differents shoot how lucky can you get

Are you running the ASIO drivers or something like WDM or MME?

Also, do you have the most recent driver updates from Lexicon?

no i dont have the latest lexicon update
and im using omega asio

Ok, ASIO is good then. I would have a look and download the latest drivers and firmware and run the update. That might also help the situation out a bit.

i did that too since you told me that but i must say it doing it much less now
but i think i just have to stick iwth track freezing cause i think there is nothing that can be done
or simply try do solo each track when trying to compress or use reverb.

Yeah, I'm not talking about sample rate. I am talking about the ASIO buffer size. When lowered there is less latency which is great for tracking but can cause pops\clicks when to low as the CPU struggles to keep up, when raised there is latency in the signal yet more time for FX to be processed. This is perfect for mixing.

The top post states how to adjust buffers in Cubase.

Ya, with the specs you have now you might be able to set the buffer up to maybe 128 or even go to 256 without much latency. Maybe 13 milliseconds or so which is pretty negligible.

The doul core processor will get you more performance, but I don't think the video card is going to help with pops and clicks, unless I missed something in this thread.

im just asking you are the profesional here
i need your advise
cause i have weeks that i cant get out of the clicks and pops
im frustrated to the max

I suppose it could help if the video card is actually being overloaded and sharing ram or processing power from the system, but I doubt it'd help much.

I'm curious here, are you running any/many effects when this starts happening? Does it happen on the first track you record, or does it only start after a few tracks are recorded and you are adding more?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz Socket AM2

can any one tell me which one should i buy i know they do the same work
but would still need the advice

Those are both the same processor. They just give different specs for it.

The Windsor Core 6400+ is a great CPU. Very stable and runs well.

If your in the market for a new processor that is the best bang fro the buck right now.

your weakness may be the sound device, it has had mixed reviews...the processor your have should be fine, your new load of ram should be fine...

oops my bad i just read wht i wrote
what i mean was AMD Athlon X2 Dual-core 6000+ 3.10GHz Processor or AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz Socket AM2

maybe i should mention that when i start the computer windows xp takes a while to load do you think that could be the reason why i have so much clicks and pop too ???
just guessing here
if that is the reason is there a way i can fix it

could be, you may have a lot of crap loading, or may have registry junk slowing it down after uninstalling all the junk I think you said you were...maybe ccleaner could clean the crap out...some people trash on it, it's been great for me personally.

Well, the easier and cheaper would be if you can simply re format your hard drive and do a fresh install of XP.

It is sounding like you may have issues in Windows as well.

But yes, and over loaded or older slower system will boot very slowly. I just recently replaced a very old Intel 667Mhz machine which took over 5 minutes to post and boot. Granted there was a lot of crap on it but it could barely run XP at all.

But for the 2 processor's you listed the 6400 is a bit better.
