Where is your headphone jack? I assume its not on the speakers. Are you using an interface that your speakers are connected to? Or are they just connected to your computer?

Somewhere in cubase, it'll say what device to use for inputs and outputs.

This is where you set the inputs to be on the 144, and the outputs to go to the onboard sound card, with the mac.

I'm assuming you have the speakers plugged into the PC, and not connected to the 144.

If you use ASIO as your sound layer, then you'll not be able to do this. You'll have to use something else, which I would tell you, but I don't know what the mac would use.

What type of speakers are you using, like can you plug your speakers into the 144 line outputs, instead of plugging them into the mac? That should fix the problem, if you can't tell cubase to use the onboard outputs.

Well i was able to make the sound work in Garage band. In Cubase when selecting inputs and outputs. It does not let me choose them seperatley. Under device setup i have 2 options. use input/output from computer or input/output from US-144. CRAZY!!!!! Am i really going to settle for Garageband? i think not.

Yeah, all i did in garage band was make the output my computer speakers and the input the tascam. The tascam only works in mono2. for cubase though it doesntgive e the option to have different inputs and outputs, ridiculous! or am i wrong? garageband is growing on me though, i have been pumping out riffs and licks for hours, heaven!!!!!

i dont know stuff all about your device but im using a tascam US1641. so i dont suppose they are too different.
it sounds like you need some settings looked at.

can you explain how you have routed your set up?
ie; go into "Devices" in cubase and find out if you have the "asio" driver "checked" and then go into vst connections and tell me how you have the inputs and outputs buss's routed to your device.
