Hi, really quick question.
What the difference between the 2 analog outs?
and what's the different between the analog outs and the phones jack in the front?
the monitors should only go into analog outs right?
thanks guys.
p.s. what monitors are you guys using?

Sep 24, 2008 12:04 pm The analog outs are a stereo output 1L 2R and the headphone jack recieves the same signal. They have seperate controls simply so you can record say.. vocals without having to monitor through your monitors (which do plug into the analog outs as you guessed) so there is no bleed into your microphone from the speakers.
I use M-Audio BX5a, good monitors for the price and they get pretty loud if I want.

Sep 24, 2008 01:20 pm If you have passive monitors, then you need some sort of power amp to power the speakers. UX2 analog outs -> power amp inputs. Power amp speaker plugins go to speakers.
I've used home stereo receivers for the power amp, and I've use one of those little book-shelf stereos for the power amp as well. Usually they have some sort of AUX input.
If you have active monitors, then you can just plug from UX2 analog outputs over to each speaker (L & R).
I use Tannoy Reveal, Active.

The M-Audio Bx8a is a much better choice for the money really. THey also have a smaller version which is the Bx5a.

what's are most decent monitors I can get around $200?
and what would the practical downsides of using a good pair of headphones, as in what should I do to not disturbing my roommates too much without acoustically treat my room? (the room is dual use so I can't do anything to it :(

Sep 26, 2008 07:43 am headphone jack will be fine. It's the same signal going out the outputs, like the Cap'n said.
Headphone mixing is not what you'd really want, but, you can do a lot with headphones. You can do a lot of level mixing, but I would certainly test against speakers to check your work. Once you get a flow going, you should be able to work in cans for a good while, and check with monitors every so often to keep you honest =). Some differences would be incorrect pan, incorrect reverb depth, spacial or presence problems, etc.
I think the bx5a are a good option. Right in your price range as well.
