I have a strange problem. I've been using my firepod/monitors for all of my computer audio for a while, and occasionally it would do a strange thing where after a while of playing it would get all distorted sounding and drop about a step in pitch, as though it were playing slower. I would just turn the fp off and back on and it would play normally. Recently, though, it started happening with a much higher frequency (about three of four minutes into playing) and even more recently it will just stop making sound. (the power light is still on). I'm not sure if it's faulty hardware or if I can fix it with software (I did reinstall the driver and no dice). Has anyone had this problem? I don't have the money to replace it, and the warranty is over... I'm scared...

Sep 21, 2008 01:02 pm It does sound as though the unit may be going bad. If you have re installed the drivers and software with no help from that.
Did the unit do this while it was still pretty new? Also, do you have a stock sound card still installed? You might try to dissable the drivers on that just to check if it is a conflict between the two units.
But it does sound as though it is switching sample rates on the fly which is causing the pitch change and then possibly crashing the unit. It might just be a firmware thing they can fix.
I would check with Presonus on that and see if they have a fix for it which can simply be downloaded into the unit. That would be much simpler then having to send it in or find a repair place close to you.
Sep 21, 2008 07:51 pm The firepod didn't do this when it was new, no. What is a stock sound card? I have an integrated sound card I believe. Is that the opposite?
Sep 21, 2008 07:54 pm "stock" means the built in sound card the computer came with, which, in most cases means it's not really a "music recording" type of card.

Sep 21, 2008 09:09 pm But ya, that would be the integrated sound card on the MoBo. Try disabling its drivers and see if that might help the issue. I doubt it will but it is worth a shot.
