Greetings.
I need a pop filter (or two). Two questions.
1) Are there significant sonic differences between foam & screen?
2) If not, I'm inclined towards foam. But prices for the name brand filters are simply outrageous. Can anyone suggest where I might find a reasonable source for filters that might fit
i) an AT2020
ii) an SM57
or, failing that, a source for the appropriate type of foam that I might cut into the right shape?
Thanks kindly.

Sep 19, 2008 02:13 pm Hey,
You could easily make your own popfilter, here's mine:
Made out of a roll of tape and an old pantyhose :) Cheap, and it works.

Sep 19, 2008 02:16 pm I wouldn't use a foam pop filter. Foam pop filters have a tendency of robbing vocals of details and clarity. The vocals may end up sounding dull.
Take a look here:

Not too expensive, even for someone who's old and broke. LOL

Sep 19, 2008 02:27 pm I picked up a cheapie at a local music store for like $14. Now I wish I'd bought a much nicer gooseneck one like Nightcap linked to. Definitely go for the gooseneck!

Copper wire and battery clamps available at any hardware store. The embroidery hoops and panty hose come in a variety of colors at a girly store near you.

Sep 19, 2008 06:54 pm Yep, what Nightcap said. I stay away from the foam. They are more for windscreen type use on dynamic mics. Although you will find em anywhere.
I prefer the screen type myself as well.
