Hi all,
what do you guys do in relation to this question?

i've recorded guitars into my software at -12.5db and want to try keep them around that.

when i put compression on them that is obviously going to squash em down, so, can someone advise me on a good method in regards to using the limiter and/or make up gain, and getting the level and overall feel of the distorted guitar fairly pumping with a good drive and constistency?
im just trying to figure out the best way and order of doing things. after i get all this happening, to keep it around -12.5db do i then just turn down my fader till i get it? if it sounds like im confused with it a bit i guess its coz me is.
cheers
Deon

If you are looking to stay around -12.5 I'd say just keep an eye on your meters. Compress it (should drop a bit) and then add some makeup gain until they are back in the neighborhood.
