Hey everyone,
I am new to computer recording. I just bought a 25 key m-audio keyboard controller. I want to be able to play strings and such using it and then record it on the background of my guitar, bass and drums selections. I am wondering how I could do that?
Again, I am a beginner so please do not use any abbreviations with me and treat me as though I were stupid (cause that's closer to where I am)!
The other thing I want to know is where are some good places to get free sounds, effects, intsrumental sounds that I could make this keyboard sound out for recording? Are there any such things on the internet or will I have to spend 700-1000 to get the software available. Thanks for your help and patience in advance!

I'll start with getting to know exactly what you have. Then we can work on what you need.
First off, can you give us the exact model of the keyboard? That will help get things going for that part.
Next, do you have any recording software that you are using now? If not we'll get you going on that as well.
No worries on the beginner thing either. We all were at one time.
One place you can go to look for a ton, and I do mean a ton of software synthisizer's is KVR.

They have a huge selection of anything you might possibly need or want. And funny enough, most are free!
In fact you can actually build the entire software portion of your recording rig with free stuff if you want. Ain't the internet wonderful that way.
But seriously. There are many programs out there that can be had for free that can get you going quickly.
Aug 26, 2008 02:20 am Thanks! I have a M-audio KeyRig 25 that came with ableton live lite 6 and the KeyRig software. Prior to having these I recorded my guitar through a lightsnake by using Cool Edit Pro 2.1 (which I am very novice using).
Since I just got the Keyboard controller, I have had some difficulty installing the Ableton and have requested a replacement CD.
