$200 mixer for small live shows?

Hello everyone,

I'm a rather new musician, I've been playing guitar for a year or so now, and I'm looking to expand by getting a whole PA system. At the moment I'm looking to buy just a mixer and some mics. I like the idea of having a separate mixer and PA but if there's any advantage to a power mixer then i'm all ears.

I have a few requirements I'm looking in for a mixer. It will primarily be used for live sound, but I might dabble into recording as well. I noticed some of the beringer mixers say they have USB interfaces, but as far as I can tell they only record one channel, I would like to be able to record a few channels at a time. Another requirement is to have decent effects. I'm not great at singing but I've found a little bit of reverb can do wonders to smooth out a voice.

So that's pretty much all I've got. I want to spend between $200 and $300 for a portable, durable, maybe USB mixer for small live events, like family functions and college parties. I know absolutely nothing about mixers or what's out on the market so any suggestions about brands or what kind would be good for me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Greg

Welcome to HRC fisrt off.

While I use and do endorse some Behringer products, the USB interface they have is not something I would recommend at all. In fact I have stated simply to toss it in the rubbish or sell it to a music store for $5.00. That is about what it is worth.

The thing is a headache to try and get running properly at all.

You would be money ahead to invest in a small PCI type 2 channel interface or something along the lines of the M-Audio Delta 44 if you need 4 ins and outs.

ON the mixer, have you got any in mind you have looked at yet?

That PCI interface looks awesome, I'd never heard of that before. Ok, so that makes things much easier. So far, I had been looking at the Behringer XENYX 1222FX and the Tapco Mix.220FX. My cousin has a small Behringer mixer that he uses and I do like the effects that it can do. However, I've never heard anything else to compare it to. From the looks of things I like the features the Behringer offers but I've heard some poor reviews about Behringer products that makes me little worried.

I use a Behringer UB2222FX-PRO, its very good. An advantage of using separate power amps is that you can upgrade your pa.
